As I See It
Who is "The City"? "It's not the Mayors, the Council Members, or the Commissioners who make up the municipal corporation, nor is it the City's Government, it's officers, or it's employees. A municipal corporation would continue to exist without any of these persons. The people are, in fact, the political body. They comprise the corporate units which forms the organized society. The people act as a political entity, by and through their elected and appointed officials." - League of Kansas Municipalities

CITY COUNCIL MEMBER - WARD 3
Wellington, Kansas
When I was elected to office, I gave up the right to my own opinion on the issues in order to be your
voice. Regardless of how I feel on the issues, I cast my vote according to the opinions of the majority
of my constituents. I still have my own thoughts on the matter though, and here is where I get to
"sound off".
The 2008 National Electrical Code. Passing any new Code is a gamble because without reading it
from front to back, there is no way of knowing what changes are in store. But when Wellington
announced it wanted to add an amendment to the 2008NEC which would prevent a homeowner from
performing any permit-related electrical work in their own homes without first passing a test, I could find
no one outside the Council Chambers, who was in favor of the measure.
Street Improvements/Round-About. Despite recent reports in the Wellington Daily News that
condemnation proceedings for property needed for the 15th and "A" round-about were "unanimously"
approved, the actual vote on the resolution was 4-3, sparking renewed controversy over the
round-about and the maintenance of city streets. I'm re-posting an editorial I wrote in 2007
concerning the round-about, street improvements and the then, 2008 budget process.
